On December 9th,1967, my friends and I went to see The Doors at the New Haven Arena. We didn't realize that this concert would become a major event in music history. Our seats were in the 10th row on the floor...giving us just enough time to run to the side of the stage to watch the New Haven police carry Jim Morrison off stage, maced and in all his glory. As I remember, he did get pretty offensive, but the crowd loved it and went wild. There was much talk about police brutality in the wake of the event. It is really difficult to explain what his presence was like on stage. All I know is that you couldn't take your eyes off of him..he was physically beautiful, but very, very, strange...almost haunting...is the word that comes to my mind. It was an evening I will always remember.
